Number plates with names
Registrations whose letters spell out a first name, such as SAM, BEN or AMY, are number plates with names. Select a name from the list to view every plate we found and its all-in price at each seller.
Names from A to Z
The all-in total combines VAT, the £80 DVLA assignment fee, and the plate. The names are listed alphabetically. A purchase through a link may earn us a fee (commission disclosure).
Fitting names onto a plate
Most name number plates take their final three letters from a current-style registration, such as AB57 SAM. This works for three-letter names and offers the cheapest way in. A prefix plate is needed for longer names, with one year letter and a number placed first. Another option is a dateless plate made from letters and numbers.
Letters are often swapped for numbers, with 4 for A and 5 for S. That way a name can be read, but the plate must appear exactly as issued, in the standard spacing and font. Shifting the spacing or fitting bolts to change a character is treated as misrepresentation, and a fine of up to £1,000 may follow.
Can I get a number plate that shows my name?
Usually, a short name will work. The widest selection is available for three-letter names. If someone has already taken that exact spelling, try a close match or fall back on initials. You cannot use a dated plate to make a car look newer than it actually is. Compare the age identifier with your log book, or pick a dateless plate suitable for any car.
