Terms of use
These terms cover your use of privateplatecompare.co.uk. Use of the site means you accept these terms, so please read them before you depend on any price shown.
What this site does
privateplatecompare.co.uk puts the prices asked by dealers and DVLA Personalised Registrations side by side for one private number plate. Each price appears as an all-in figure, and you can follow a link to the seller.
We take no payments, hold no registrations and issue no certificates of entitlement: we do not sell plates. Any plate you buy comes from that seller, on their own website and under their own terms.
These prices belong to sellers
Each price shown comes from a listing provided by a seller. We add VAT and the £80 assignment fee DVLA charges when a seller leaves them out, as our price checks explain.
Stock and prices change, and a plate can sell in the gap between checks. Some of these plates include VAT of less than 20%, so the checkout total can differ from the figure we show. What you pay is the seller's checkout total. Before you buy, always check it along with the seller's terms.
The guides and tools
In plain words, our guides summarise the rules on GOV.UK along with dealer information. They give general information rather than legal, tax or financial advice. A starting point is all our valuation tool and Number Plate Maker offer. A valuation is not a purchase offer, and a drawn plate does not guarantee a registration can be displayed that way on a car.
Other sites we link to
Our links point to dealers, to GOV.UK, and to other sites. We have no control over those sites, and their content, prices, service and availability are not our responsibility. A fee may come from some dealer links; our commission disclosure page sets out the details.
Liability on our part
We take care that prices and guides remain accurate, but we cannot promise there are no errors or that the site will always be available. A dealer's actions and failures are not our responsibility, including delivery, transfer and refunds, and the condition of anything bought from them. Some liability cannot be limited under UK law, and nothing in these terms limits it. The legal rights you have as a consumer stay unchanged.
Fair use of the site
You may use the site for personal purposes of your own. We ask you not to bulk copy the price data, run automated scraping aimed at the site, or try to disrupt how the site operates.
Contact and the law
The law of England and Wales governs these terms. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may bring proceedings in those courts too. Send any questions about these terms to contact@privateplatecompare.co.uk. Our complaints and corrections page sets out how complaints are handled.
