Accessibility statement
Our aim is level AA compliance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 for privateplatecompare.co.uk, so everyone can read our guides and compare plate prices.
Changes we have made
- Using a keyboard. The menus, price tables, plate finder and links all work with a keyboard. The focus is easy to spot as you move around the page.
- The skip link. Every page opens with a link that jumps you past the menu to the main content.
- Alternative text. Any image that carries meaning comes with a text alternative. Images that are only decorative stay hidden from screen readers.
- Plates appear as real text. On the site, number plates are real text rather than images of text. A screen reader reads out the registration, you can copy the text, and zooming keeps it sharp.
- A layout that reads well. On small screens and when you zoom, pages reflow and the main content does not scroll sideways. Text and controls are sized so they are easy to read and easy to tap.
- Simple language. We keep our sentences short, and terms such as all-in price, V750 and assignment get explained when they first appear.
Limits we know about
Dealer websites and the GOV.UK pages we link to are not ours to control. Accessibility on those pages may differ from ours, including at a dealer's checkout when you buy a plate.
On a phone, following some wide price tables with a screen reader can take more effort. Tables stay as simple as we can make them, and each one has clear column headings.
The ways we test
Testing covers four things: a keyboard on its own, browser zoom, small screens, and automated accessibility checks. Problems we find get fixed.
Reporting a problem
If any part of the site is difficult to use, or you need information in another format, email contact@privateplatecompare.co.uk. Let us know which page it is and what went wrong, and we will take a look. Our complaints and corrections page is another option.
