Private plate finance
Monthly instalments are how Private plate finance helps you pay for a number plate, and several dealers arrange it with lenders including V12, Payl8r, Klarna and Buyline. Finance is not available from DVLA, and we do not provide it either: we only compare prices.
A21 OYL: DVLA charges £250 all-in, which makes it the lowest-priced DVLA plate in our price check.
Which dealers offer private plates on finance
Each dealer publishes these terms on its own finance page. Terms can change, and all finance is subject to status with the lender making the decision, so check the dealer's page first, before applying.

Finance is not available from DVLA.
DVLA Personalised Registrations has no finance or instalment options. Every payment to DVLA must be made in full. Spreading the cost over time requires a dealer that offers finance.
The way number plate finance works
- With our plate search tool, you can find a plate and compare each seller's all-in price.
- Check if the seller offers finance for that plate and that amount. Certain offers cover selected plates only.
- Send your application through the dealer. Your details are checked by the lender, which then makes a decision.
- If the lender says yes, you repay it in instalments across the term you agreed.
- Ask the dealer when your car will get the number, or when the V750 or V778 will reach you.
What to check before you sign up for reg plate finance
- The all-in cost. Some dealers give a price that does not include VAT or the £80 DVLA assignment fee. Base the finance on the plate's all-in price, not the headline figure.
- The APR and the total you pay. At one dealer, a 0% offer may appear beside rates over 20% APR, depending on the lender and term.
- The kind of credit search. Find out if the search is soft or hard.
- Whether finance is needed at all. A lower priced plate may make more sense than taking out a loan. The lower priced numbers are listed on Cheap private plates.
Buying through a dealer link may earn us a fee, but it never affects the order of prices. See the details in our commission disclosure.
