Privacy notice

About you, privateplatecompare.co.uk collects very little: there is no sign-up, no accounts, and no email collection. Here we set out the small amount of data handled, plus the rights you hold under UK GDPR.

What we do not gather

No account is needed to use the site, and nothing on it requires sign-up. No form on the site asks for a phone number, an email address, or your name. We use no third-party trackers or advertising tags are used.

Anonymous events for pages

A page load causes a small anonymous event to go to our own endpoint on this domain. Only these details are included:

  • the path of the page you viewed
  • a screen size bucket (such as phone sized or desktop sized)
  • the referring host, which is the website you came from rather than the full address

We set no cookies and use no identifiers, so no event can be linked to you or to another event. They help us see which pages are useful and which ones still need work.

What your browser keeps

The plate finder keeps the car year and budget you last chose, so there is no need to set them again. Your browser's localStorage holds them under the key "v92.prefs". Your device keeps it, and it is never sent to us. You can remove it whenever you like by clearing your browser's site data. Take a look at our cookies page.

When you send us an email

If you email contact@privateplatecompare.co.uk, your email address and message serve one purpose only: to answer you and handle what you asked. You are not added to any list, and your email is not shared with dealers. The message is kept only while it is needed to deal with your request.

Dealer websites

Following a link to a dealer takes you off our site. That dealer's own privacy notice covers anything you give them, including when you buy.

The rights you have

Under UK GDPR, you may ask which personal data we keep on you, have it corrected or deleted, and object to how it is used. You may also restrict that use. To make use of any of these rights, send an email to contact@privateplatecompare.co.uk.

If the way we handled your data leaves you unhappy, the Information Commissioner's Office takes complaints at ico.org.uk. Please contact us first, as we would like a chance to put things right.
